Like so many of you, I can get caught up in New Year’s Resolutions that will never come to be. I actually have all of my New Year’s Resolutions written down and I re-read them from time to time. Apparently I have been trying to lose the same 10 pounds for the last 20 years. Ridiculous! So here is my resolution revelation about health change.
I have been reading about habit change and how small changes in daily routines and activities can make a really big difference. For instance, I want to drink less coffee, but my habit is to make a cup every morning as soon as I walk into the kitchen. It is the FIRST thing that I do. What if I just focused on changing that habit? What if I had a glass of water first, or looked outside at the bird feeder and set my intention for the day? What if I jumped into the shower immediately and avoided the kitchen?
I have recently heard a speaker refer to bad health habits as “habit dysfunctions” and I like that idea. This article really speaks to the power of habits and gives some great suggestions. This year I am going to focus on habit change and see what happens. What habits are getting in the way of your better health? What little changes can you make that will make a big impact in a year from now? I would love to hear!
